Approach

I predominantly work through a humanistic-existential lens. This means that I recognise that life is full of complexities, challenges and anxieties, and sometimes, despite all our best efforts, we can have difficulty in navigating through and responding to them. Sometimes, we just need someone alongside us who will work openly, honestly, respectfully, collaboratively and non-judgementally, in order to clarify what is happening, acknowledge, recognise and validate how it feels, and help us understand what it means for us, within the here and now, so we can choose what to do next in living the life we need.

I also work integratively, taking into account your whole being and using techniques and tools from different approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, ecotherapy, cognitive behavioural and third wave, to tailor an individual approach for you.

My aim is to build a trusting and non-judgmental relationship that helps you develop and enhance your self-awareness, as when you understand the causes of your concerns, triggers, thoughts and/or behaviours, you can confidently set goals and develop new ways of being, to help you thrive.

I have a particular interest in the therapeutic benefits of physical activity, nature and the outdoors and use these within my therapeutic practice where appropriate.

I also have extensive experience of working within high-pressure performance and performing environments, having supported athletes, coaches, teachers, lecturers, military and services personnel, crisis-response workers, leaders and managers across sport, education, the armed forces, NGB, NGO, public, private and voluntary sector organisations. This work has involved transition support through illness, injury, career progression, loss and retirement as well as more specific intervention work around confidence-building, enhancing motivation, enhancing focus, anxiety management, arousal control, relationship difficulties, re-acclimatising, trauma-processing and general mental health and well-being support.
