Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed - To return to my trees

‘Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed’

Translation: ‘To return to my trees’; to return to one’s senses and a balanced state of mind.

The last few years have been somewhat interesting……for many, COVID has brought a level of loss, isolation, disconnection and distance that cannot be under-estimated. During that time we have lost family and friends, become isolated from wider community networks, disconnected, some would say, from a fulfilling sense of purpose and meaning, and distanced from a sense of reality (thanks Boris!).

For others, COVID has provided the opportunity to find, free, reconnect and unite in a manner not experienced for generations.

For us, in isolating from others we have re-found ourselves and our passion for the climate, nature and dare I say it, compost toilets!! In disconnecting from the social norms of commuting, email frenzies, status building and toxic system perpetuating, we have reconnected with veggie growing, fungi nurturing, star gazing, and habitat building. In distancing from our previous reality (no seriously, thanks Boris, you made it easy for us….), we have become united with other like-minded souls who would rather plant and look after trees, swim in rivers (not Rhys), walk up mountains (not Rhys), burrow in leaf mould (not Nicky) and sprinkle sawdust!!!

We have returned to the trees and it’s blinkin’ marvellous….. 🧝‍♀️🧙‍♂️

I sing a new freedom

In days of fire.

Freedom with discipline.

We need freedom to rise higher.

Be true to your true self

In the rich follies of our times.

Become the force you are

In this era of economic crimes.

Only those who remain free in spirit

Will find their way out of this maze.

But we are children of the stars,

And we ought to amaze.

(Ben Okri, 2012).
